| DaVinci's Virtuvain Man |
Pictured above is the vitruvian man, drawn and conceptualized by Leonardo DaVinci. The Vitruvian man is an image of a man superimposed upon himself and enveloped within a circle and a rectangle. The scale of the geometries allow for the artistic aspect of the drawing to connect to the mathematical sense of proportion. DaVinci took the ideas of proportion and “ideal” senses of measure and applied them to the art world. He is able to rationalize the combination of two seemingly unrelated subjects.
During the initial comparison of math and art it seems as if they live on completely different planets, but after a closer analysis of the two it is clear that art in a way is based on math.

Hi Hanna,
ReplyDeleteI agree with your argument that math and art are related. You gave a great example of Da Vinci's famous image of Vitruvian Man. Planning out your artwork and sketch does require math to decide the proportions that would make the perspective of the image make sense. Math is also very important in architecture, which is a form of art that is really crucial for us! Awesome post!
Hey Hanna!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great blog. The way you talk about math and art are honestly awesome because you explain them both perfectly along with the way societies views them. You also told us how you feel about mathematics and art and I completely agree with you. Math is used all the time in art. Great post!
Hi Hanna! I thoroughly enjoyed reading your input on the relationship between math and art. I particularly found interest in your commentary on the vitruvian man. Your choice of highlighting the relationship between proportions and what is considered "ideal" draws an intriguing correlation between math and beauty standards.
ReplyDeleteGood Afternoon Hanna, The way you explained one of my favorite subjects in math was great because you knew how to talk about it and how to truly just explain it. Also, you talked about art and how that has an affect on everything how truly how everyone sees them. Math is used as a certain type of art but always used in art in ways that we don't realize that you made me realize.
