     Hello fellow desma students, my name is Hanna Wittmack, a fourth year student of the undergraduate architecture program. My initial study of choice for upper division education was chemistry but halfway through my first year, I found my passion for architecture. When studying abroad on a ship that circumnavigated the world I was taken aback by how different cultures took on designing their buildings. Thinking it would give me the opportunity to balance both math and art, I decided to continue my studies upon return. Yet was surprised to find the categorization of architecture within the art world. Even on my own campus the architecture building sits within the north side of campus under the jurisdiction of art, with a hike to the nearest science department.  The two cultures of art and science are physically separate which has led to a social differentiation between them.
